THE EDUCATION & TRAINING CENTER’S STUDENT UNION RENOVATION PROJECT ON TARGET FOR SPRING 2025 COMPLETION

TITUSVILLE, PA - Progress continues on the Student Union renovation project at The Education & Training Center at Pitt-Titusville and once completed will enable the expansion of the workforce programs at the campus. ETC’s project is still on target for spring 2025 completion.

“This $10 million renovation allows our partners to expand their workforce programs and upgrades the HVAC system within the building,” said Dr. Stephanie Fiely, ETC at Pitt-Titusville’s Executive Director. “Workforce areas will be dedicated to the Manufacturing Assistance Center and Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, as well as creative space in the digital arts studio, makerspace, and art gallery.”

The MAC owns equipment that has been unable to be utilized due to the lack of head clearance in the current workshop space. The former racquetball courts located in the J. Curtis McKinney II Student Union on campus will be transformed into a spacious workshop for the MAC.

Part of the seating area within the former gymnasium will be home to an art gallery. The art gallery will showcase student work through the programs offered by Manchester Bidwell Corporation in Titusville. In addition, there may be opportunities to showcase work from outside artists.

The newly renovated Student Union will include a makerspace that will be available for all ETC partner students. Students will have the opportunity to use 3D printers, tools, and other types of supplies to create a variety of projects, fostering collaborative influence between the arts and manufacturing.

Crews are currently wrapping up the demolition phase of the project which includes the removal of a stairwell and completing the metal framing of new room walls, windows, and doorways. A new north entryway is being established directly across from the south entry, as well as a garage door entry to the workshop.

In late July the old HCAC units were removed from the rooftop and some of the new units were placed. Additional HVAC equipment for the east end of the complex will be placed later in the project.

With classes starting for some of the partners, McKinney Commons Dining Hall, operated by Metz Dining, will open to the public starting Monday, August 19. Dining hall hours are Monday through Thursday 11 am to 5 pm and Friday 11 am to 3 pm with the lunch buffet available weekdays from 11 am to 2 pm.
